ISAR / SARTECH III

The Introduction to Search and Rescue (ISAR)/SARTECH III course is designed to provide knowledge concerning the general responsibilities, skills, abilities, and the equipment needed by persons who would be participating in a search or rescue mission. The course is based around rural and wilderness environments but the material is recommended as a base of knowledge for all SAR environments.

ISAR/SARTECH III is the first course in a stepping stone approach to higher level NASAR courses of training for emergency personnel. It provides a common starting point in training for the new person to SAR and in many cases, an excellent refresher course for the more experience SAR worker. This common starting point provides continuity during SAR operations and future training of all team members.

This course is intended for all Law Enforcement, EMS, Emergency Management, Fire and Rescue Personnel that conduct land based Search and Rescue Missions. In this course the participant will receive instruction on the importance of proper SAR management, lost subject behavior, subject finder/locators, defining the role of the search manager and search personnel, introduction to map and compass reading, basic land navigation, and team building. The student will also receive introduction on basic rescue techniques such as; basic rescue knots and rope utilization for low angle rescue, and basic patient packaging for wilderness extraction. This course is a mixture of classroom and field exercises. Included with your registration is the textbook and NASAR certification/testing fee.

Pre-requisites: N/A
Required PPE: Outdoor clothing suitable for hiking/field exercises is required. Sturdy boots, long pants, leather gloves, appropriate head gear and secondary eye protection are recommended. It is also recommended to bring a backpack, compass, pen and paper for the field exercises.

Note: All registrations received up to two weeks prior to the start date of the class will be at the normal pricing. Any registration received during the period two-week period prior to the start date of the course will incur an additional $20 processing fee regardless of member, associate member, or non-member registration.
