About the event

Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue

This 8-hour class is designed to give the first responder an  overview of large animal rescue and the unique incidents that we as  first responders are charged with mitigating. This class will consist of  a 4-hour classroom presentation and 4 hours of hands-on training in  moving the large animal. In the class we will provide the student with  basic knowledge of the incident command system as it applies to large  animal rescue, technical rescue equipment needed, PPE for the first  responder, behavior of the pray animal, anatomy of the horse, trailer  and road incidents, animal containment and immobilization and moving of  the animal.

Instructed by Bart E. Powell, Paramedic who also serves as the Director of Public Safety, EMS/EM for Anderson County KY. Instructor Powell is also a technical rescue instructor with the KY Fire Commission and is a retired Special Operations Battalion Chief with the City of Lexington, KY Division of Fire and Emergency Services.

Director Powell has 45 years in emergency services serving with  Lexington Fire and currently with the Department of Public Safety in  Anderson County KY. Director Powell served as a firefighter, Lieutenant,  Captain, Major, and Battalion Chief. He has been involved with technical  rescue, hazardous materials, and Paramedicine his entire career.  He spent five years assigned to the fire academy as an academy  instructor.
